Vigan Cityhood- Vigan as a Municipality Now


 Vigan, before it achieved cityhood, was a municipality that played a significant role in the history of the Philippines. As the capital of the province of Ilocos Sur, Vigan was known for its Spanish colonial architecture and cultural heritage. It was one of the few places in the country that retained its colonial charm, with cobblestone streets, ancestral homes, and centuries-old structures that attracted both local and international tourists. As a municipality, Vigan was already a vital center of commerce, education, and government in the region, and its unique blend of cultural heritage and modern development made it a hub for both residents and visitors alike.


As a municipality, Vigan had a strong local government that worked to improve infrastructure, public services, and the welfare of its people. The local government focused on preserving the historical aspects of the town while also promoting economic growth through tourism and other industries. The municipality was also known for its agricultural activities, as many residents were involved in farming and handicraft production. Vigan's economy was primarily supported by these industries, along with its growing tourism sector that showcased the beauty and heritage of the area.

The decision to pursue cityhood was based on the recognition that Vigan, as a municipality, had the potential for further growth and development.
